You have three ways to look up Genesee County traffic ticket records: online, in person, or by mail. Each option works for different situations. Online is fastest for basic case info. In person is best when you need certified copies or want to talk to a clerk. Mail works if you can't visit in person.

Online searches use the MiCOURT system at micourt.courts.michigan.gov. This is run by the Michigan Supreme Court and covers all district courts statewide, including all seven 67th District Court locations. Enter a name or case number. Results show the violation date, charge, court location, fines owed, and hearing information. No account is needed to view basic case data.

In-person requests go to the location where the case was filed. Bring your ticket or case number if you have it. Copy fees are $1.00 per page for standard copies and $5.00 to $10.00 for certified copies. Certified copies are needed for insurance companies, employers, or court proceedings in another state.

Mail requests are also accepted at each location. Write a letter stating the name and case number, include payment by check or money order, and send it to the right address. Processing time is 7-10 business days, not counting mail travel time. If you do not know which location to contact, start with the main Flint office at 630 S Saginaw Street.

These include felony cases like reckless driving causing death, repeat drunk driving charges, and cases where a traffic stop led to other criminal charges. County Clerk John R. Gleason manages record access for the circuit court.

You can reach the circuit court at (810) 257-3015 or visit gc4courts.org. Record requests at the circuit court require a Copy Request Form. Submit the form in person or by mail. Copy fees match the district court rate of $1.00 per page, with certified copies costing $5.00 to $10.00. For FOIA requests, email foia@geneseecountymi.gov. Standard copies take a few business days; FOIA requests may take longer depending on volume.

Note: Most routine traffic ticket records in Genesee County are held by the 67th District Court, not the Circuit Court. Only go to the circuit court if you know your case was filed there.

Genesee County Traffic Tickets and Your Driving Record

A traffic conviction in Genesee County gets sent to the Michigan Secretary of State. The SOS then updates your driving record under MCL 257.320. Points stay on your record for two years from the conviction date. Common point values are: 3 points for careless driving or speeding 11-15 mph over the limit, 4 points for speeding 16+ mph over or impaired driving, and 6 points for OWI or reckless driving.

If you hit 12 points in two years, the SOS will call you in for a mandatory driver reexamination. Fail that exam and your license may be suspended. The point system is governed by MCL 257.320 and MCL 257.320a. Points are calculated from the conviction date, not the date of the actual violation.

You can get your own driving record through the SOS online portal at mvic.sos.state.mi.us. Non-certified records cost $11.00 and certified records cost $12.00. Mail requests use Form BDVR-154. Driving records show all violations, convictions, license sanctions, and point totals as required under MCL 257.328.
